Snow Farm Seconds Sale

I have a selection of my recognizable colored clay pieces that are in the clearance and seconds categories. This year for the first time I also have a number of pieces that I make as demo pieces for my students at The Putney School as well as some experimental pieces that I have made at workshops that I have taken.

There are over 250 artists in a variety of mediums who have work at this sale!

The entry fee goes to the Snow Farm scholarship fund as does half of the artists proceeds. I’m glad to support people in having such an opportunity to take a workshop who otherwise may not be able to, while finding homes for these more unusual pieces.

Black Mountain College Museum & Art Center Conference talk by Naomi Lindenfeld

I will be giving a talk at the
ReVIEWING Black Mountain CollegeInternational Conference

Here is the description:

Lore Kadden Lindenfeld: A Life in Textiles: with origins as a student of Anni Albers and Trude Guermonprez, recounted by daughter and clay artisan, Naomi Lindenfeld

During Lore Kadden Lindenfeld’s time as a student at Black Mountain College between 1945-1948 she took textile and design courses with Anni and Josef Albers, Trude Guermonprez and others. From those studies she developed a life-long passion for textile arts. Greatly inspired by their teachings, she went on to design fabrics for the fashion industry in New York for ten years, followed by a career as an exhibiting weaver and then fiber collage artist, developing weaving courses for adult school and establishing the weaving program at a community college in New Jersey. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Art & Design (NY), the Smithsonian (DC), the Newark Museum (NJ), the Asheville Museum (NC) and in private collections.

Her earlier woven wall hangings very much demonstrate the Bauhaus influence along with expressing her own voice and sensibilities. With her later fiber collage pieces, she was intrigued with the potential of transforming and reinventing visual images of natural forms through the merging of graphic elements with fiber techniques. The addition of drawing, stitching and layering of materials, rhythms are echoed as she combined the real with the imagined.

This talk will be given by daughter, Naomi Lindenfeld, who has an established career as a clay artisan and ceramics teacher. One can very much see the aesthetic similarities in her innovative colored clay work. Naomi had the chance to carefully examine her mothers’ fiber work during the process of creating clay pieces that are directly inspired by specific pieces made by her mother. Naomi will touch on that experience during this talk. The “dialog” between the two artists occurred post Lore Kadden Lindenfeld’s death in 2010. Naomi hopes to keep her mother’s work and legacy alive through sharing these stories and images.

Art, Craft & Design: League of NH Craftsmen’s Fair

The three pieces pictured below that enter a sculptural realm for me, will be in the Art, Craft & Design exhibit/sale that is a part of the League of NH Craftsmen’s Fair. It happens for nine days from August 5 – 13, 2023 10am to 5pm each day. I had a booth at the Fair for thirty-three years but for the last few my only representation there is having some pieces in the the A, C & D exhibit and sale. I am very glad to be a part of it in this way still as my focus has turned more to my teaching and going in new directions with my creative work.

I hope that you can make at least a day of going to see the whole Fair. It is an extra special one with the high quality of craft work, booths, demos, exhibits, hands-on workshop opportunities, live music and great food.

Art, Craft & Design exhibit

My clay work will be shown once again in the “Art, Craft & Design” exhibit that is a part of the League of NH Craftsmen’s Fair at Mt. Sunapee Resort. The Fair happens for nine days from August 6 – 14, 2022.  I had a booth at the Craftsmen’s Fair for 33 years up until 2019 and am now just taking part in this exhibit.  Not only am I scaling back my participation, I will have some pieces that are very new and different for me, along with my “New Growth” Vase that is my familiar style.  The animal sculptures “Emerging” and “Ancient Wonder” were inspired by a project that I did this past winter with an arts group that I’m a member of called “Brattleboro-West Arts“.  We created an “Artful Ice Shanty” for an outdoor exhibit sponsored by The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center that was an aquarium filled with whimsical water creatures and plants. These pieces were so fun to make from my layered, marbleized porcelain and they do have some charm!  The pieces are available for sale.

Workshop: Folded Slabs with Layered Slip Decoration

Weekend Workshop:
Folded Slabs with Layered Slip Decoration
With Naomi Lindenfeld
Wheelhouse Clay Center, Brattleboro, Vermont
Saturday and Sunday July 23rd & 24th, 2022  9am – Noon each day
Creating surfaces with layered, colored slips will be explored in this workshop.  Combing, texturing and printing with them can produce a sense of depth and intrigue. We will make paper templates as a useful tool for envisioning how a flat slab of clay can be folded into a three-dimensional form.   A clay slab is rolled out and cut into the shape of the template.  Before the folding and construction takes place, the pigmented slips will be layered and patterned to add surface decoration.  Tips and tricks will be shown for folding, attaching and treating seams, edges and corners.

$140 plus $40 for clay and an additional $10 if instruction in glazing is needed or if you would like me to glaze your pieces.
This is a departure from my usual colored clay methods but related in its colorful, gestural effects.
Register with me through my contact page on this website.

Colored Clay: Layers Revealed – Workshop

Weekend Workshop:
Colored Clay: Layers Revealed

with Naomi Lindenfeld

Saturday and Sunday March 19 and 20, 2020     9am – Noon each day

Natural objects with patterned imagery surround us in the environment.  These will provide inspiration for making pieces from layered, colored clay.  It is an exceptional medium for expressing the beauty of fluid movement, the effects of water and wind that transform shells, rock and wood.  We will wedge stains into porcelain and layer the different colors into a block.  By slicing, rolling, pinching and carving, multi-dimensional effects are revealed.  The colored clay integrates the designs with functional or sculptural forms, connecting hand with water and earth.

Two projects will be presented using layered block: wrapped slab cups and pinched and carved bowls.  Prior experience with clay is helpful but not essential.

$185 includes materials, glazing and firing plus sessions for glazing, picking up finished work and discussion.  $10 extra charge if instruction in glazing is needed or to have the instructor glaze your pieces.
